Church Repentance for the Nation

Prerequisites

Understand the times: Daniel 9:1-2

Determine to seek God: Daniel 9:3

1. Accept responsibility: Daniel 9:4-6

The sin of Achan was a sin for the entire nation: Joshua 7:1

Associating with sinners is not a sin: 1 Corinthians 5:9-11

Failure to warn others about sin is sin: Ezekiel 3:18-19

2. Be uncomfortable with sin: Daniel 9:7-8

Dwelling on good things does not mean ignoring sin: Romans 12:9

Sins of Israel/America lead to punishment: Jeremiah 6:13-15

3. Confess the consequences: Daniel 9:9-14

Five (5) Consequences of Sin in a Nation:

  • Separation from God: Isaiah 59:2

  • Sin is the root of more sin: Hosea 10:13

  • Lack of Understanding: Ephesians 4:18-19

  • Destruction of the Nation: Isaiah 47:11

  • Conflict: Isaiah 57:20-21

4. Declare the need for Mercy: Daniel 9:15-16

God’s mercy on the nation is limited: Isaiah 55:6-7

5. Emphasize God’s reputation: Daniel 9:17-18

Ask that they would know what God has done for them: 1 Kings 18:36-37

6. Ask forgiveness: Daniel 9:19

Repent for both current and past sins: Leviticus 26:40-42

God promises mercy when we confess sin: Proverbs 28:13
